There are only two entry points to Bhutan: most travellers arrive by air at Paro, some arrive by road at Phuentsholing on the southern border with India. In any event you have to fly by the national carrier, Druk Air, either in or out. The flight from Kathmandu to Paro provides the most dramatic view of Himalayan scenery of any scheduled flight. Be sure to get a window on the left side for maximum visual effect. Druk Air won't issue your ticket until they have received your 'visa clearance' from DOT.

VISAS & PASSPORTS

Valid passports and an entry visa are essential. Travelers to Bhutan are permitted only as a member of a commercially organized tour group. This can be done directly through us. The price for any holiday is set by the Royal Government of Bhutan and it covers all accommodation costs, all meals, transport, services of licensed guides etc., there are surcharges on individuals and groups of less than four people. There are also discounts available for young students and children. Visa clearances are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thimpu and must be obtained before departing for Bhutan. Druk Air tickets cannot be purchased without visa clearance. At your port of entry your visa will be stamped in your passport on payment appropriate fee, you will also require two passport photos. Extension of visas, for up to 6 months, can be obtained in Thimpu at an additional cost.

NOTE: Visas cannot be obtained at Bhutanese embassies.
